I had absolutely no intention of posting that wikipedia birthday meme thing here. Until I got to the Deaths section at which point I was like :O :O :O WHAT NO.

No, seriously, that's exactly what I was like.

Anyway: In Wikipedia type in your birthday with no year, and choose 3 events, 2 births and a death from that day.

( so my birthday is apparently CURSED or something )

The best part of being an avid reader of British science magazines is occasionally you happen across things like this:
"London's prestigious Royal Society was founded in 1660 by a group of 'natural philosophers,' including the architect Christopher Wren. Since then, virtually all the UK's noted scientists have been fellows of the society. Isaac Newton, for example, was one of its first presidents.

The society's website at www.royalsoc.ac.uk outlines the services and activities on offer at its headquarters. If you want to find out more, just hit the 'contact us' button. A drop-down menu lists the different sections of the society you can communicate with, such as conference facilities, library and archives, press office and so on. This is all quite straightforward, but the last item on the list is puzzling, to say the least. What, exactly, is provided by the 'Fellows bedroom service'?"

Sometime near the end of last year, when I took a look at what I'd managed to write in 2005 and saw that it was rather lacking -- at least quantity-wise -- I decided to make like [livejournal.com profile] elira and start a random text file to keep track of the things that popped into my head -- the little bits and pieces that I liked but that I knew would never get any bigger -- in the hopes that this would get me writing more.

I know WiP amnesty day was a few days back, but these were never really WiPs to begin with. However, with a tough remix ahead of me, it's probably a good idea to clear the slate and dump all the things I might otherwise try and distract myself/procrastinate with.

So for what it's worth, in various states of unpolished and crappy and organized by fandom, I bring you the Free Writing.txt 2005.

You know, I'd always sort of assumed that the reason I'm into slash as heavily as I am is 'cause of the not canon, ain't never gonna be canon factor more than the OMGYAYSGAYSEXORS!!11! thing.

I know I'm perfectly capable of liking heterosexual couples, but I never like canon ones. And with het couples there's always the fear that some day the source is going to come along and screw around with what ever ideas or preferences you've developed surrounding said couple.

With gay couples? Not so much in today's society -- you can think whatever you want, you can read or write a thousand different stories without having to subscribe to one particular view of How It Happened, it's great!

This, I always told myself, is why I'm all about hot boy-on-boy action.

Apparently not so much so.

There really needs to be a television series in which Isaac Newton, Daniel Waterhouse, and Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz trundle around London solving mysteries.

And Newton and Leibniz would pointedly ignore each other most of the time, except on rare occasions when they start arguing about metaphysics and having their own special, sexual tension laden glaring matches until Daniel has to make them stand in the hall while he makes all sorts of apologies to their latest client. "Yeah, sorry, they just... I mean, they aren't actually...look, it takes a while to explain." And Isaac and Daniel would continue to communicate entirely by looking at each other for extended periods of time which would lead to Leibniz spending a lot of time zoning out and mentally writing poetry about steam engines. And Roger Comstock would pop up every now and then to send them out on their next case, and it would be exactly like Charlie's Angels except with crotchety old Natural Philosophers instead.

'm just saying.

(Argh. The next chapter is titled 'Philosophick Showdown at Leicester House' -- why am I not reading you right now?)

So you all know that moment, right? That moment in Romantic Comedies where The Girl and The Boy are on some form of boat, and they hit a wave or something, and The Girl trips, and The Boy catches her in his arms, and then they kind of look at each other and realize how immensely meant-to-be they are? Or maybe pointedly ignore how immensely meant-to-be they are and act embarrassed?

Yeah, that moment.

So now, replace "The Boy" with "Daniel Waterhouse" and "The Girl" with "Isaac Newton" and just try and tell me I'm wrong to love these books as much as I do.
"If I observed faces, instead of stars, and philosophized about thinking, instead of Gravity, I could write a treatise about what I have seen passing over your visage in these past thirty seconds," Isaac said.
...I have such a crush on Isaac Newton.
