Nov. 5th, 2009 07:41 pmI consider myself a pretty musically open person. I like most kinds of music. I prefer to judge based on the song not the broad category of music the song is supposed to fit into.
But I gotta admit it's taken me a weirdly long time to admit to myself that I like rap. Or some rap. I like the occasional rap but for a very long time, I claimed it was the one category of music I didn't really like.
Illinoize, a mash-up of songs from Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise and rap songs, is kind of kicking that assertion in the nuts for me especially today. It's pretty awesome all around (except for possibly "John Wayne Gacy Jr. / Specialize," which I can't saying anything about as I have not yet listened to. Because no song freaks the hell out of me quite the way "John Wayne Gacy Jr." does).
So while I'm thinking about music, here are some songs I'm enjoying at the moment:
✤ TOR/SUFJAN STEVENS - Star of Wonder/None Shall Pass (feat. Aesop Rock)
✤ SILVER STARLING - Ghosts
✤ VOLCANOLESS IN CANADA - Mexican Circus (March to the Holly Dome)
